What we Do?
Things to do and see in the Daytona Beach area, Beyond the Beach!
Things to see
Chantilly Ridge Alpaca Farm - Never having met an Alpaca before, I was not sure what to expect. We had met Vern Purdham, owner of Chantilly Ridge Alpacas, at the New Smyrna Farmers Market a few months ago, and he invited us to come see his Alpacas. So one Sunday we did, and now I’m hooked. They are the sweetest creatures! Their large eyes pull you in and you can’t help but smile.
Historic Band Shell
The historic Bandshell in Daytona Beach was completed in 1938, built out of coquina rock and capable of seating up to 4000 people. The Bandshell still offers an open air concert series every summer starting on Memorial day through Labor day. ALL FREE!!! The Bandshell is also used for speakers and other public forums. It was recently used by the republican presidential candidate to speak to central Florida residents. It’s also a great place to gather and watch the fireworks from the Main Street Pier on every Saturday in the summer. The Bandshell is mostly a great place to go to if people watching is your sport.
When we walked into McK’s Tavern we thought that we were listening to piped in music, but when we turned the corner, to our surprise, there was about eight musicians playing Irish music in the back of the restaurant! We sat ourselves at one of the large booths and immediately started tapping our feet and enjoying the many instruments that were being played. Flutes, bagpipes, guitars, drums, you name it. Our server said that the third Saturday of every month, as few as three and as many as eighteen musicians, of all ages, show up to play.
