South Daytona, FL
Homegrown Goodness and American Success Story
The Gourmet Kitchen in South Daytona has been a favorite with locals for three generations. Van and Wanda Van Newkirk opened the Gourmet Kitchen in the same location it still is today in 1972, selling the restaurant to their son Tom in 1981, and now their granddaughter, Hannah, is purchasing the place from her father. We love this kind of story because doDaytona.com is all about locally owned and operated business, especially when the business spans over 40 years!
It’s true! Not only are you greeted with a big smile, but Hannah and her staff remember your name when they say hello. If you go there often enough, they’ll probably remember your order too! Gourmet Kitchen bring a new meaning to hometown friendliness. It’s also one of the few places where you also feel very comfortable at a table for one. But if you prefer to sit at the counter, that’s okay too, the clean, bright, welcoming atmosphere makes you feel like your among friends.
Complete with Daily Specials, the menu offers great diner food with generous portions and more than reasonable prices, with breakfast, complete with coffee, at around $6.00. And the thing I like most about Gourmet Kitchen is you can order Lunch for Breakfast, Breakfast for Lunch, you get the idea, they have no restrictions like a lot of places.
Open for Breakfast and Lunch, Gourmet Kitchen is located in the Sunshine Park Mall in South Daytona, where Publix is. The easiest way to get there is to park on the south side of the mall and go in the south entrance, but you can park in the front of the mall and walk through also. They are open seven days a week from 6:30 am to 3:00 pm, with the exception of Sunday when they open at 7:00 am and close at 2:00 pm. One of the best authentic, neighborhood places around, Gourmet Kitchen is a must stop for anyone traveling to the area.
See you at the Beach!
