118 Year Old Spiritual Community

Established in 1894 by George Colby, this 118 year old spiritual community called Cassadega is west of Daytona Beach on I-4 about 26 miles, approx 32 minutes.  With only about 55 residents, 25 of whom are mediums who work out of their homes, the 57 acre town of spiritualist have chosen to work, live, and worship in harmony with their beliefs.

We were given a tour of Cassadega by “Dino” the cat.  He met us at the Hotel and showed us around.  He told us “If you need a medium to speak to the nearly and dearly departed, want your palm read, a tarot card reading, a spiritual healing, or just want to connect with the spiritual, Cassadega is the place for you.  There are also some book stores for spiritual reading material, and items that may be needed for contemplation or meditation”.

 What a great, informative host!

The Cassadega Hotel is as rich in history as it is in character.  Itcasadega homes offers a very nice restaurant and lots of personalities to talk to.  While, at last visit, the lake had seen the drought, I have high hopes that it will return.  The adjacent park is beautiful and those of you interested in early Floridian architecture will love the homes in the town.  I suggest a pleasurable walk down the streets and then a nice lunch or dinner at the Cassadega Hotel restaurant.

Thanks for the tour Dino! You were awesome!
